Sell a cracked phone

A cracked screen or back doesn’t make your phone worthless. Repair shops and people who fix phones buy cracked ones every day, and a cracked phone that still works keeps a good share of its value. Here’s what yours is worth and how to get the most for it.

Front glass, back glass or the screen itself?

Buyers price these differently, so say exactly which it is. A cracked front glass with a clean picture and working touch sells near the top of the damaged range. Lines, dead spots, a black screen or touch that doesn’t respond mean the display itself needs replacing, which costs a buyer more and lowers the price.

A cracked back is usually a cosmetic problem: the phone works normally, and some buyers simply keep it in a case. A cracked camera lens matters more than it looks, because photos come out hazy.

Should you fix the screen before selling?

Only when the repair costs clearly less than the gap between the working and damaged price for your model, and the shop uses good parts. A cheap screen with wrong colours or a warning in Settings can leave the phone worth little more than it was cracked. If the numbers are close, sell it as it is: the buyer prices the repair in, and you skip the risk.

How to sell it

  1. 01Sign out of your account first

If it turns on, back it up, sign out of your Apple Account or Google account and erase it. If it doesn’t, remove it from your account online: on iCloud.com under Find Devices, or under Security in your Google account. A phone still tied to your account can only sell for parts.

  2. 02Photograph every crack

Good light, the screen on if it lights up, and a close-up of each crack. A buyer who sees the damage up front doesn’t open a dispute about it later.

  3. 03Say what still works

Touch, Face ID or the fingerprint reader, cameras, speakers and battery health. Every one that works is money on the price.

  4. 04Have the IMEI ready

Dial *#06#, or read it from the SIM tray or the box. It’s checked privately before your listing goes live and never shown to buyers, so keep it out of your photos.

Sell it on Honest Phones

Any condition, 3% seller fee, no listing fees. Every IMEI is checked before a listing goes live, and the buyer's payment is held until they accept the phone.

Common questions

Is it worth selling a phone with a cracked screen?

Usually, yes. A cracked phone that still works keeps a large part of its value, because screens are a common, routine repair. The price guide shows what a cracked one sells for, model by model.

Can I sell a phone with a cracked back?

Yes. List it as damaged and say the crack is on the back. If everything else works, it sells near the top of the damaged range for its model.

Will a cracked phone sell for less if the screen has lines?

Yes. Lines, dead spots or touch problems mean the display itself needs replacing, not just the glass, so buyers pay less than for a phone with only cracked glass.

What does it cost to sell a cracked phone here?

Listing is free and the seller fee is 3% when it sells. The buyer’s payment is held until they accept the phone.
